Do we need stress in our life? We often believe stress is a negative factor. But in fact, stressors can be positive as well as negative. Stress is a very natural and important part of life. Without stress, life would be ll and unexciting. Stress brings flavor, challenge and opportunity to our life.
Here is a good thing to try let someone imagine staying on an island where there was no stress and asked them how long they would remain happy. Undoubtedly, after a while on this island, people would feel bored and want to do something. This also indicated that the quality of our performance was related to our level of stress. Stress that can be controlled by us not only is able to motivate our action but also can bring us good results.
As a good example, experienced actors always welcome a certain amount of nervousness before going on stage. They believe that this kind of stress can make them better in the performance. In theory, stress can engender our body changing and temporarily increase our energy. So feeling stress really can help people concentrate, focus, perform, and can often help people reach peak efficiency.
This point can be proved by the case of college students. As a college student, life can be stressful. In moderate doses, stress challenges students to do their best and keeps them learning and growing. For example, finals are an especially stressful time. Since the final exam has a high percentage in the total score and the outcome is uncertain, there will be a high level of stress. This stress can prompt students to study harder, longer, and learn more from the extra effort. So positive stress is defined as functional stress when it enhances our indivial or group performance.
