Beside my bed a pool of light—
Is it hoarfrost on the ground?
I lift my eyes and see the moon,
I bend my head and think of home.

When asked for a wineshop to drown his sad hours?
A cowboy points to a hamlet amid apricot flowers.

A Morning in the Spring (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran (689-740) Translated by Wang Daoyu
Sleeping late this morning of spring, I hear birds chirping all around.
The wind and rain of the night still ring, How many flowers have fallen aground?
SPRING MORNING (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran (689-740) Translated by Xu Yuanzhong
This spring morning in bed I'm lying, Not to awake till birds are crying. After one night of wind and showers, How many are the fallen flowers?
Spring Mornings (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran (689-740) Translated by Xu Zhongjie
One slumbers late in the morning in spring, Everywhere, one hears birds warble or sing.
As the night advances, rain spatters; winds moan.
How many flowers have dropped? Can that be known?
The Spring Dawn (Chun Xiao)
2
Meng Haoran (689-740) Translated by Wu Juntao
Slumbering, I know not the spring dawn is peeping, But everywhere the singing birds are cheeping.
Last night I heard the rain dripping and winds weeping, How many petals are now on the ground sleeping?
Singing birds are cheeping也嫌重复。
One Morning in Spring (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran (689-740)
Translated by Weng Xianliang
Late! This spring morning as I awake I know. All around me the birds are crying, crying.
The storm last night, I sensed its fury. How many, I wonder, are fallen, poor dear flowers!
Spring Dawn (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran (689-740) Translated by Sun Dayu
Feeling not when cometh th’ peep of spring dawn, Everywhere birds’ songs I hear in my slumber.
Though the sounds of wind and rain all th’ night long, Know I not how many th’ flowers fall in number.
A SPRING MORNING (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran (689-740) Translated by Witter Bynner
I awake light-hearted this morning of spring, Everywhere round me the singing of birds-- But now I remember the night, the storm,
And I wonder how many blossoms were broken.
3
Spring Morning (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran (689-740) Translated by Zhu Manhua
Asleep, senseless of spring morning I heard birds everywhere singing.
The stormy night made so much noise, How many flowers dropped, who knows?
Spring Dawn (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran
Translated by Adele
Asleep in the spring, I missed the dawn Until I heard the birds singing everywhere. Wind and rain had clamored last night. How many flowers fell during the storm?
Spring Dawn (Chun Xiao) By Meng Hao-ran Translator unknown
Oversleeping in spring I missed the dawn; Now everywhere the cries of birds are heard. Tumult of wind and rain had filed the night-- How many blossoms fell during the storm?
Waken on A Spring Morning (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran
Translator Unknown
4
I can barely wake up in spring slumber,
As the chirping of birds is heard there and here. Last night came a stormy rain,
To try to count the fallen petals would be in vain.
Counting the fallen petals would be vain.
At Dream in Spring (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran
Translator Unknown
Slept so well I didn't know it was dawn
birds singing in every courtyard woke me up the wind and rain troubled my dream last night I think of all those petals swept to the ground
Troubled my dream好。
Spring Morning (Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran
Translator Unknown
I slept so well, not knowing spring dawn's here, Awakened by birds singing everywhere.
All through last night there were strong winds and showers. Do you know the number of fallen flowers?
(Chun Xiao) Meng Haoran
Translator Unkown
In drowsy spring I slept until daybreak,
When the birds cry here and there, I awake。 Last night l heard a sound of wind and rain。 How many blossoms have fallen again?
5
Spring Morn
Meng Haoran (689-740) Translated by Gong Jinghao
Spring slumber goes on and on. Everywhere you hear birds’ song. Last night there was wind and rain. How many flowers in mud have lain!
Thoughts on a still night
Before my bed a pool of moonlight, Maybe it is a night frost on the ground?
Raising my head I see the moon silver bright, Bowing my head my heart turns to my hometown.
Thoughts in the Silent Night
The bright moonlight spread around my bed, and it shines just like frost on the ground. I raise my head
to share the same bright moon with my family, who are far away from me,
and I fall into the memory of my homeland.
